Executive Masters in Diplomacy and International Affairs

Overview

The one-year Executive Master’s in Diplomacy and International Affairs (EMDIA) program seeks to enhance the ability of practitioners from Qatar and the Middle East region to formulate and implement effective foreign policy. The degree provides the participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to tackle current and emerging regional and global challenges.

Classes focus on significant challenges in global politics and economics facing diplomats, critical thinking skills related to the major tools of statecraft, and areas of strategic importance to Qatar and the Middle East region.

Program Background

Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) in Washington, D.C is a world-recognized, premier school of international affairs founded in 1919. Through its Institute for the Study of Diplomacy (ISD), SFS has developed the EMDIA program in close collaboration with Georgetown University in Qatar and the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

The year-long EMDIA program comprises ten 3-credit modules. Nine modules are taught on campus at Georgetown University in Qatar and each includes two courses delivered over five days of intensive, in-person instruction by visiting faculty affiliated with Georgetown University. The tenth module is a Capstone Residency held at Georgetown’s Washington, DC campus, featuring five days of classes along with meetings with policymakers and international institutions.

* Tuition fees are subject to annual review and updated fees will be published in Summer 2026.  The published tuition fees exclude the cost of flights, accommodation, visa fees, and any other travel related expenses for the Residency in Washington DC. 

 The EMDIA program does not offer financial aid or scholarships. Enrolled students are expected to self-fund, or seek external funding. Qatari students may apply for a scholarship through their place of work, or through the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
