The EMDIA program welcomes applications for admission from highly qualified professionals from across Qatar and the wider Middle East region, bringing together a diverse cohort with complementary perspectives and expertise. Applicants include Qatari diplomats nominated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, government officials working on foreign and national security policy across embassies, ministries, and other government entities, and practitioners with professional interests and backgrounds in these fields.

By bringing together participants from different institutions and professional backgrounds, the program fosters meaningful interagency exchange, strengthens cross-sector collaboration, and encourages a broader understanding of the complex challenges shaping foreign and national security policy.

Application Form

This form should be filled online. You will also upload supporting documents through this form. To ensure that all application elements can be matched to your application record, please label all of your supporting documents, and spell your first, middle and last names EXACTLY as they are spelled on your passport.

Personal Identification Documents

Upload a clear, legible scan or photo of your valid passport and national ID card. These documents are required to verify your identity and confirm your personal details. Ensure that all information is visible and the documents are current and readable.

Personal Statement

Submit a thoughtful personal statement, written in your own words, that helps the Admissions Committee understand your professional experience, motivations, and goals. Your statement should explain why you are seeking an Executive Master’s degree at this stage of your career and how the program aligns with your professional trajectory and aspirations. Your statement may be autobiographical or creative in approach.

In your essay (3–5 pages double-spaced), please address the following:

Professional experience and perspective: What aspects of your professional experience have prepared you to contribute to and succeed in this program?

Motivation and fit: Why are you pursuing this program, and how will it complement or advance your current professional responsibilities and interests?

Goals and impact: What do you hope to achieve through the program, and how do you intend to apply the knowledge, skills, and perspectives gained to your organization, profession, or broader field?

The EMDIA program is designed for experienced professionals seeking to deepen their expertise and advance their careers. While prior professional work experience is not a formal requirement for admission, it is strongly preferred. Upload your most recent CV (Curriculum Vitae) as part of your application. Your CV should provide an up-to-date overview of your education, work experience, skills, achievements, and other relevant academic or professional activities.

Transcripts

We require official transcripts for all your post-secondary education.

Any documents that are not in English should be accompanied by an official English translation.

Any transcripts issued using a grading system other than the 4.0 scale may be required to provide an official credential evaluation or grading equivalency. The evaluation should clearly indicate the U.S. degree and grade-point equivalent of your academic record. Applicants are responsible for obtaining the required evaluation from an approved credential evaluation. If your transcript requires an evaluation, please contact the Program Manager before submitting your application.

English Proficiency

The program’s language of instruction is English. In order to succeed academically at Georgetown, students must be able to excel in courses that are reading and writing intensive. We require applicants to demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency on the IELTS.

We waive the English language proficiency exam requirement for applicants who have completed their post-secondary studies in English, and can submit an official confirmation letter from their institution.

Recommendation Letters
Applicants are required to provide two letters of recommendation from individuals who are well positioned to evaluate their potential to succeed in the program. For applicants with professional experience, recommendations should ideally come from your current or former supervisors or professional colleagues who can speak to your professional abilities, leadership, accomplishments, and potential. Applicants with limited professional experience may submit a recommendation from a former professor or other academic reference.

Recommenders must submit their letters directly to the Program Manager as the letters must be confidential and should not be shared with the applicant.

Controlled Writing Exercise

The Controlled Writing Exercise is a mandatory requirement for all applicants who successfully submit an application. The exercise is administered internally by the program and must be completed in person on campus. All applicants are required to complete the exercise, regardless of citizenship, native language, or whether the English proficiency requirement has been waived.

Following the initial application review phase, eligible applicants will receive an invitation with instructions and details regarding the exercise. No action is required at the time of initial application submission.

Admissions Interview

The program offers interviews on an invitation-only basis. We endeavor to interview as many applicants as we can. You will receive an email from the Program Manager should an interview be required.
